Overview

Our beginner level Chinese program provides students with a fully immersive language learning environment where they will focus on the development of speaking and listening skills. We offer a theme-based program that incorporates language games, stories, songs, content-based activities such as science experiments, and seasonal and cultural topics related to students’ daily lives. Through these engaging and meaningful activities, students will be able to understand and respond to simple questions, statements, and commands in common topics such as greetings, family, school, etc. They will also accumulate new vocabulary words about colors, shapes, body parts, food, numbers, etc

Objectives
  • 150 vocabulary words

  • Form simple sentences about their daily lives and culture-related topics;

  • Express ideas and reasons about a familiar topic such as activities they like to do, favorite food, weather, clothes, etc.; 

  • Describing pictures

  • Answer “why” questions

  • Compare and contrast

  • Engage in conversations and dialogues

  • Understand different Chinese festivals

  • Follow and tell stories in Chinese

  • Read simple Chinese stories

  • Beginning reader skills

Overview

This program integrates MLP K Chinese textbooks with seasonal themes, subject matter concepts in history, geography, science, and ancient Chinese myths, legends, and fables reading. The main focus is on developing students’ listening and speaking skills. However, we will also introduce basic Chinese characters and words so that students will begin to cultivate an understanding of the structure of Chinese characters through learning basic strokes.

Objectives
  • 280 - 330 vocabulary words

  • Recite an easy Chinese poem

  • Compare and contrast;

  • Deliver simple speeches;

  • Discuss subject matter concepts in history, geography, science, and ancient Chinese myths, legends, and fables reading

  • Understand the structure of Chinese characters through learning basic strokes and radicals

  • Read short stories and passages

  • ONLINE: Saturdays, 11:00pm - 12:00pm 

  • IN-PERSON: Mondays, 3:30pm - 4:30pm

Overview

Our Intermediate level program focuses on developing Chinese literacy skills by following MLP 1st Grade Chinese textbooks. Students will be engaged in more complex conversations and discuss topics that require critical thinking and advanced vocabulary under the guidance of their teacher. Later on, students will be introduced to Pinyin (the Chinese phonetic system) so that they can read Chinese books and passages independently. In addition, students will study radicals in depth so that they can use them as a tool to infer the meanings of new and complicated Chinese characters. Students will also practice Chinese character writing and they will learn how to follow the correct stroke order.

Objectives
  • 600 vocabulary words

  • Discuss topics of personal and general interest and some academic topics

  • Connect sentences smoothly, and organize speech into paragraphs using connectors

  • Understand complex academic discourse and highly idiomatic speech in conversation;

  • Understand and be able to use Chinese idioms

  • Learn Pinyin (the Chinese phonetic system)

  • Read long stories and passages, Chinese poems and idioms

  • Understand subject-related reading
