We offer a highly-varied selection of materials and crafting methods in addition to classic training for drawing. We understand that your children are in different stages of dexterity and self-expression and our approach ensures that all of them will learn how to express themselves artistically, not just through pencil and paper

Course Content

Overview

Art & Craft II (Grades 1–2, or by placement) — Building Skills
A next step for early elementary artists ready for bigger, multi-day projects. We layer media, improve
craftsmanship, and plan with sketches before we build.

Objectives

Combine media (paint + collage + drawing) with control
Plan a multi-step artwork (sketch → build → refine)
Use cleaner edges, thoughtful color/space
Write or speak a short reflection about process

Prerequisite
Art & Craft I or equivalent experience.

Overview

Art & Craft I (PreK-4–K) — Introduction to Art Making
A playful first step into art for young makers in PreK-4 to Kindergarten. Students explore drawing,
painting, collage, and simple sculpture, learning safe tool use, color mixing, and how to turn an idea
into a finished piece.

Objectives

Try multiple materials (crayons, paint, glue, clay) safely
Practice line, shape, color, texture
Follow simple step-by-step projects
Share art and talk about choices with confidence

Frequently Asked Questions

What class is right for my child?

It depends on your schedule and your child's development. In general:

Ages 2.5-4: Can recognize shapes and colors, and be able to use scissors to cut straight lines. They should color shapes properly (not scribbles). They will develop and improve these skills in Mommy & Me Art Level 0.
Ages 4-5: Can draw shapes and color them. They can also use shapes to draw more complicated subjects, such as animals and flowers. They will develop and improve these skills in Happy Painting I or Art & Craft I.
Ages 5-6: Can doodle their own ideas and know how to mix and make colors. They should understand concepts like contrast. They will develop and improve these skills in Happy Painting I or Art & Craft I.
Ages 6-7: Can use big shapes to draft, refine, and add details. They should also understand concepts like contrast, 2D vs. 3D, and warm vs. cold colors. They will develop or improve these skills in Art & Craft II.
Ages 7-8: Understand the elements of art further and can use them purposefully. They should be able to use different mediums together and start developing a sense of space. They will develop or improve these skills in Happy Painting II.
Ages 8-9: Learn about 3D drawing and develop a sense of space. They will develop or improve these skills in Happy Painting II.

What's the difference between Happy Painting I and Art & Craft I?
Young children should not be limited to one medium. In both of these classes, they will be able to explore different mediums and subjects. In Art & Craft classes, they will get a chance to use clay for sculpture. In Happy Painting classes, instead of clay, students will be doing Chinese Painting in some sessions. For students in the exploratory stage, rotating mediums will keep them interested in art study and also expand their skills.

What's the difference between Art & Craft II and Happy Painting II?
Happy Painting II will focus more on drawing than mixed medium projects. For some students, serious training can be boring. Art & Craft II will keep them interested by using a more diverse range of mediums.

What if we can't attend a certain class because it's not the right level for our child?
We recognize that every student is unique. We provide individualized advice and expectations for each student based on their development and skill level.

What do they draw?
We have different themes/subjects in each class. For more information, speak to our Art teacher, Miss Luo.

What do we need to prepare?
You don't need to bring anything unless told otherwise. All art supplies will be provided.

What if we want a longer session?
We will host a monthly open studio hour. Anyone can sign up and enjoy a longer art-making time.

Overview

Happy Painting I (Ages 5–7) — Explore & Express
An open, playful intro to painting and drawing. Students explore characters, props, and landscapes
without a fixed comic style—they draw and paint by instinct with gentle guidance. Along the way
they discover the Elements of Art (line, shape, color, value, texture) and beginner Design Principles
(balance, contrast, emphasis) while learning to place a character in a simple setting.

Objectives

Experiment with line, shape, color, value, texture across guided projects
Try beginner design principles like balance, contrast, and emphasis in easy layouts
Paint characters, props, and backgrounds to build confidence and voice
Combine their choices into a single expressive image (no fixed style required)

Pathway
Leads to Happy Painting II, where students refine character design and use more advanced composition for visual storytelling.

Overview

Happy Painting II (Ages 7–9) — Character Design & Visual Storytelling
For ages 7–9 ready to level up from Happy Painting I. Students delve deeper into character design (proportions, style, turnarounds, expression sheets) and use advanced composition to build visual stories in posters or short comics.

Objectives

Refine character anatomy (head–body ratios, hands/feet) and expression range
Develop a consistent style (line, color palette, shape language)
Use dynamic composition (rule of thirds, leading lines) to guide the eye
Create a 2–4 panel comic or a finished story poster with clear beginning–middle–end

Prerequisite

Happy Painting I or equivalent drawing experience.

Overview

Young students will embark on an artistic journey as they learn from the masters of art. This beginner-level art class will cover classic fine arts pieces from painting, sculpture, architecture, and more. Teacher will tell engaging stories about artists and their creative process through unconventional means such as impromptu puppet shows, picture books, and more. Take the inspiration from the masterpieces, with the opportunity to use different mediums, they will explore art making and all of the creative possibilities. It’s perfect for the budding artists.

Understand the creative process of master artists
Explore personal artistic expression through various mediums

Overview

Intro to 3D Art (Ages 9+) — From Drawing to Dimension
An intro-to-advanced pathway for ages 9+. Students develop a 3D sense and perspective, drawing cubes/cylinders/cones, learning light/shadow and one-point perspective, then building simple paper or clay forms.

Great prep for advanced drawing, sculpture, and Digital Painting.

Objectives

Improve observation (angles, proportion)
Shade forms with hatching and smooth gradients
Apply composition and perspective to still life
Construct a simple 3D model from paper or clay

For ages 8+ curious about digital art. Learn Procreate basics—brushes, layers, selections, color—and
make stickers, posters, and a short looped animation.

Stands alone; pairs well with Happy Painting II and Intro to 3D Art.
