Course Content

Overview

Art & Craft 2 is an inspiring and dynamic class tailored for kids ages 6-8 to further explore their artistic talents and expand their creativity. Through engaging and challenging art projects, children will delve deeper into various art techniques, develop problem-solving skills, and gain a deeper appreciation for the world of art and craftsmanship.

Objectives

Advancing Artistic Techniques: Building on the foundation from Art & Craft 1, kids will learn more advanced art techniques, including shading, blending, and perspective, allowing them to create more detailed and sophisticated artworks.
Promoting Creative Problem-Solving: Children will be encouraged to think critically and creatively as they tackle more complex art projects, fostering their problem-solving skills and adaptability.
Introduction to Art History: Kids will be introduced to famous artists and their works, providing them with insight into different art movements and styles throughout history.
Exploration of Diverse Art Forms: Art & Craft 2 will expose children to a variety of art forms such as collage, printmaking, sculpture, and mixed media, broadening their artistic horizons.

Overview

Art & Craft 1 is an engaging and creative class designed for kids ages 4-5 to explore their imagination and artistic abilities. Through a variety of fun and age-appropriate art projects, children will discover the joy of self-expression while developing fine motor skills and fostering their love for art.

Objectives

Exploration of Various Art Mediums: Children will be introduced to a wide range of art materials, such as crayons, markers, paints, and colored papers, allowing them to experiment and familiarize themselves with different artistic mediums.
Developing Fine Motor Skills: The class will include activities that involve cutting, pasting, drawing, and coloring, which will help improve children's hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
Encouraging Imagination and Creativity: Through open-ended art projects, kids will have the freedom to use their imagination and creativity, fostering their ability to think outside the box and create unique artwork.
Introduction to Basic Art Concepts: Kids will learn basic art concepts like colors, shapes, and lines, providing them with a foundation for future art learning.
Enhancing Self-Expression: Art & Craft 1 will create a supportive environment where children feel encouraged to express their feelings, ideas, and emotions through art.

Frequently Asked Questions

What class is right for my child?

It depends on your schedule and your child's development. In general:

Ages 2.5-4: Can recognize shapes and colors, and be able to use scissors to cut straight lines. They should color shapes properly (not scribbles). They will develop and improve these skills in Mommy & Me Art Level 0.
Ages 4-5: Can draw shapes and color them. They can also use shapes to draw more complicated subjects, such as animals and flowers. They will develop and improve these skills in Happy Painting I or Art & Craft I.
Ages 5-6: Can doodle their own ideas and know how to mix and make colors. They should understand concepts like contrast. They will develop and improve these skills in Happy Painting I or Art & Craft I.
Ages 6-7: Can use big shapes to draft, refine, and add details. They should also understand concepts like contrast, 2D vs. 3D, and warm vs. cold colors. They will develop or improve these skills in Art & Craft II.
Ages 7-8: Understand the elements of art further and can use them purposefully. They should be able to use different mediums together and start developing a sense of space. They will develop or improve these skills in Happy Painting II.
Ages 8-9: Learn about 3D drawing and develop a sense of space. They will develop or improve these skills in Happy Painting II.

What's the difference between Happy Painting I and Art & Craft I?
Young children should not be limited to one medium. In both of these classes, they will be able to explore different mediums and subjects. In Art & Craft classes, they will get a chance to use clay for sculpture. In Happy Painting classes, instead of clay, students will be doing Chinese Painting in some sessions. For students in the exploratory stage, rotating mediums will keep them interested in art study and also expand their skills.

What's the difference between Art & Craft II and Happy Painting II?
Happy Painting II will focus more on drawing than mixed medium projects. For some students, serious training can be boring. Art & Craft II will keep them interested by using a more diverse range of mediums.

What if we can't attend a certain class because it's not the right level for our child?
We recognize that every student is unique. We provide individualized advice and expectations for each student based on their development and skill level.

What do they draw?
We have different themes/subjects in each class. For more information, speak to our Art teacher, Miss Luo.

What do we need to prepare?
You don't need to bring anything unless told otherwise. All art supplies will be provided.

What if we want a longer session?
We will host a monthly open studio hour. Anyone can sign up and enjoy a longer art-making time.

Each session is divided into circle time, art/craft time and story time. It’s not only a chance for your child to discover the love for art but also an opportunity for you and child to bond through art.

Overview

Students will explore the creative possibilities by doing fun projects with different painting mediums. We will cover different themes, such as art from all over the world, art and music, art and science and more. With various visual aids, students will hear stories, they will look at different masterpieces and get to talk about how they feel and what they see. In the process, they will be introduced to the elements of art.

Explore Creative Possibilities: Encourage students to unleash their creativity by engaging in enjoyable painting projects using various painting mediums.
Diverse Themes: Introduce students to a range of artistic themes, including art from different cultures worldwide, the relationship between art and music, the intersection of art and science, and more.

Critical Observation: Encourage students to closely observe and analyze different masterpieces of art, fostering their ability to perceive and appreciate art.

Students will continue to build the foundation they need to express themselves through visual art. The teacher will remind them of the element of art, and design principles that they previously learned. They will also learn the techniques needed to create artworks that can convey emotions and feelings.

Objectives

Building on Foundations: Build upon the foundational knowledge acquired in Happy Painting I to further develop students' abilities to express themselves through visual art.
Reinforce Elements of Art: Revisit and reinforce the understanding of the elements of art, including line, shape, color, texture, form, space, and composition, as a crucial basis for artistic expression.
Design Principles Mastery: Deepen students' grasp of design principles such as balance, contrast, unity, rhythm, and emphasis, enabling them to create more dynamic and visually appealing artworks.
Emotion and Feeling: Explore techniques and strategies for conveying complex emotions and feelings through visual art, allowing students to infuse their artwork with personal expression.
Advanced Techniques: Introduce students to advanced painting techniques, including blending, layering, and texture manipulation, to enhance the depth and complexity of their artwork.
