1-on-1 Classes

Our private piano classes offer personalized attention, tailored curriculum, and faster progression, allowing students to develop their piano skills with confidence and explore their interests in a supportive environment.

Music Theory

Our emphasis on music theory provides students with a deeper understanding of how music works, enabling individuals to read, write, and interpret music more fluently.

Ear Training

Ear training improves students' ability to recognize and identify different musical elements such as pitches, intervals, chords, and rhythms by ear. It also enhances their overall musicality, enabling them to play by ear, improvise, and transcribe music more accurately and effectively.

Course Content

Overview

Our Ukulele And Music 1 group classes focus on finger placement, strumming, sight-reading, and chord placement. The teacher goes over techniques with students one by one in each class and helps them review what was taught in the previous session. Students will get to know about different styles from classical music, and rock to jazz and more by listening to and watching music being played. Students will also learn to play while singing. Learning to play the ukulele is a cost-effective, and fun way for children to learn music. They will develop their concentration skills, improve their coordination, and it will eventually be their way of relaxation.

Objectives

Develop Fundamental Skills: The primary objective of the class is to teach students the foundational skills necessary to play the ukulele effectively. This includes focusing on finger placement, strumming techniques, and chord placement.
Sight-Reading Proficiency: Students will learn to read music notation specific to the ukulele. They will practice sight-reading exercises to improve their ability to interpret sheet music and play accordingly.
Exposure to Different Music Styles: Students will be introduced to various music styles, including classical, rock, jazz, and more. They will listen to and observe performances to appreciate the diversity of ukulele music.
Accompaniment and Singing: In addition to playing the ukulele, students will learn to accompany their playing with singing. This combination enhances their musicality and expressive abilities.

IN-PERSON: Tuesdays, 3:30pm - 4:30pm

Overview

This piano class/piano program(in person in Jersey City) is designed for beginner piano players with little to no experience. Students will learn notes, how to read music, scales and how to play simple piano pieces. Miss Ashley teaches Levels 1 - 2 of our Music Learning Roadmap. Click here to view. About Miss Ashley

Ashley earned her Bachelor of Music from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, studying under Alexander Shtarkman. She is currently pursuing her Master of piano degree at the Mannes School of Music with a scholarship, under the legendary master Ann Schein. Ashley won first prize in the Taipei City Music Competition and second prize in the International Youth Chopin Piano Competition in Vietnam, where she was praised by the judges and Master Dang Thai Son as a "musical young pianist."

Overview

Our Ukulele & Music 2 group classes focus on finger placement, strumming, sight-reading, and chord placement. The teacher will go over techniques with students one by one in each class and help them review what was taught in the previous session. Students will get to learn about different styles from classical music, and rock to jazz and more by listening to and watching music being played. Students of this level are expected to know how to play C key chords and read TAB. Students will learn some new strumming and plucking techniques like pull-offs and hammer-ons to be able to play different finger-style solo songs.

Objectives

Advanced Finger Placement and Strumming Techniques: Building on the foundational skills learned in Ukulele & Music 1, the class will focus on refining finger placement and strumming techniques to enhance the students' overall playing ability.
Proficiency in Sight-Reading and TAB Reading: Students will further develop their ability to read standard music notation and TAB (tablature) for the ukulele. This skill will enable them to learn and play a wider range of songs and musical pieces.
Mastery of C Key Chords: Students will be proficient in playing chords in the key of C, expanding their chord repertoire and enabling them to play songs in different keys with ease.
Introduction to Different Music Styles: Building on their previous exposure to various music styles, students will delve deeper into classical, rock, jazz, and more, understanding the characteristics and techniques associated with each style.
Introduction to Finger-Style Solo Techniques: Students will learn essential finger-style techniques such as pull-offs and hammer-ons. These techniques will enable them to play more complex and expressive solo songs on the ukulele.
Exploration of Finger-Style Solo Repertoire: Students will be exposed to a variety of finger-style solo songs, allowing them to apply their new techniques and explore different musical genres.

Overview

This piano class/piano program(in person in Jersey City)is designed for intermediate piano players with an understanding and ability to read notes and scales. About Dr Amalia

In May 2021, Amalia Rinehart earned her doctorate degree in piano from Stony Brook University, where she studied with Professor Gilbert Kalish. She earned her Master of Music degree from Stony Brook, and her Bachelor’s in music (theory and history) from Columbia University, from which she graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. Prior to studying with Prof. Kalish, she studied with Reiko Uchida and Molly Morkoski.

The class is individualized to meet each student's study piano program and progress plan after evaluating the student's performing skill level and learning capacity. About Ms Li

Chinese pianist Ying Li is the First Prize winner of the 2021 Young Concert Artists Susan Wadsworth International Auditions, as well as the recipient of The Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival Prize and the Tri-I Noon Recitals Prize. She has received top awards in numerous national and international competitions including the inaugural Antonio Mormone International Prize, Sarasota Artist Series Piano Competition, Brevard Music Festival, and International Liszt Piano Competition for Young Pianists, and was a finalist at Concours musical international de Montréal.

As an avid chamber musician, Ying has appeared at prestigious festivals around the world including the Verbier Festival Academy, ClassicheFORME International Chamber Music Festival in Lecce, Ravinia’s Steans Institute, La Jolla Music Society, Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, the Artists Series Concerts in Sarasota, and the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival.

Ying began piano lessons at the age of five in China and was a student at the Elementary School division of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, then she moved to Philadelphia in 2012, at age fourteen, to study at the Curtis Institute of Music with Jonathan Biss and Seymour Lipkin. After receiving the Bachelor of Music degree at Curtis Institute in 2019, she received her Master of Music degree at The Juilliard School in New York with Robert McDonald and continues her studies with McDonald at the Juilliard School’s Artist Diploma Program.
